Will the 2011 Pro Bowl kill the Dallas party scene?

Aloha, NFL.  We barely had time to miss you.  That’s right, the Pro Bowl returns to its indigenous land, Honolulu. and it will remain in the week before the Super Bowl slot.  This is not shocking news, that’s for sure.

Here’s the tweet from NFL PR:

Pro Bowl will be played Sunday night, Jan. 30 @Aloha Stadium, televised by FOX @ 7 pm ET. FOX will carry SB week later from Cowboys Stadium.

I, for one, wound up appreciatingchange in the Pro Bowl scheduling mainly because it’s nice to keep a flow of hardcore football going.  In other words, I prefer the order of 1) Fluff 2) Super Bowl 3) Draft to a fluff sandwich.

But I am a little concerned about the move back to the Hula State.  You see, one thing not lacking in Miami this year was an overflow of athletes and parties.  It was party central for a week straight, to no one’s disappointment.  Take all those Pro Bowlers* away (i.e. the guys make an ok party a soiree just by virtue of a ten minute appearance), and they may not arrive in Dallas until Tuesday or Wednesday or not at all.  That means the over-the-top parties won’t get started until Thursday at the earliest.

So what the hell are the rest of us supposed to do in Dallas for the early part of the week (other than work ourselves into oblivion, of course)?  Feel the magnetic power of Jerryworld? No thanks. Go to the overpriced original Neiman Marcus? maybe.  But the city will feel a little hollow with some of the game's biggest stars 5.000 miles away.  And, as alluded to above, some Pro Bowlers may decide to take a full-fledged Hawaii vacation, missing Dallaspalooza completely. after all, they've been absent fathers and husbands for the past several months. Regardless of what those hypothetical Pro Bowlers decide, Dallas is gettting set up to be a Cowboys Stadium sized downer.

Contrary to the common mythology, some voted in Pro Bowlers actually play in the game itsef.

Funny comment, Dirty Dawg. But I'm going to take a wild guess and say you're not a married dawg.

I think you're missing the genius in this plan, football girl. All the players' families like to go to Hawaii, so the players get to take them there the week before, build up some relationships capital, and then head to Dallas by themselves to scam on their groupies (not to mention all the glammed up blonde daughters of oil tycoons). That's what the dirty dawg would do!
